Forgotten Highways
The California Legislature decommissioned most of the U.S. highways in California in July of 1964.  Some had become legends in popular culture.

This book will devote a Section to each of the decommissioned U.S. highways in California.

There will be a lot of memories for a lot of people in this book.

I've begun research, road trips and photos for "California's Forgotten Highways" - work that will take me to all corners of the State.

If all goes well, the book will be finished and available for sale around the middle of 2010.

Page Photo Header:  An abandoned section of what I believe once carried U.S. Routes 70 and 99 near Calimesa, California.  I-10 is about 150 feet to the left.

This graceful concrete bridge once served U.S. Routes 60, 70 and 99 east of Banning, California.

It now serves only as a minimally maintained service road for local low-speed traffic.

That's busy I-10 on the left.
